Gatunek typowy Paltodus subaequalis PANDER, 1856 (?= P. inconsta ns LINDSTROM, 1955). Opis
Remarks. - The holotype of the type species has been lost and its illustration is specifically undeterminable. Somewhat arbitrarily LINDSTROM( 1971) suggested that it may be a senior synonymm of his P. inconstans. It seems reasonable to follow his choice and to consider the type population ofm the latter species to be the reference standard for the genus. Its apparatus is closely similar to that of Drepanoistodus (see BAGNOLI et al. 1988) and, actually, separation of the se genera seems now rather doubtful. Affinities of the Middle Ordovician species tentatively classified here in Paltodus remain uncertain , although some forms transition al in age and morphology (see LOFGREN 1978: p. 64) maym support such attribution.
