Opis Subcylindrical carapace slightly compressed laterally, median suture absent, with cephalic carinae usually ornamented with spines or tubercles but sometimes smooth; short rostrum lacking supra- and subrostral teeth; cervical, postcervical, and branchiocardiac grooves well developed, both cervical and branchiocardiac grooves steep, cervical groove at less than 70 degree angle to dorsal surface, branchiocardiac groove at over 30 degree angle to dorsal surface, expressed as concave arc; post-cervical and branchiocardiac grooves often extending to a position very far posteriorly on carapace, at times even intersecting posterior margin of carapace; subrectangular pleonal somites, sharp demarcation between pleura and terga, exopod of uropods with diaeresis; pereiopod 1 strongly elongate and pseudochelate or achelate; pereiopod 2 pseudo- or achelate; pereiopods 3–5 always with terminal dactyli (after Karasawa et al. 2013: 108).
