Löfgren (1998) clarified the apparatus structure and species distinction in the Ordovician part of the Decoriconus lineage. Although identification of element types is difficult, the slightly constricted base and fine ribbing on the external side of the element cusp seem to fit the range of variability in D. mercurius, occurring in coeval strata in Sweden.
