Opis
Diagnosis. - Exogastrically coiled, moderately elongated shell with narrow, originally subcentral siphuncle (but ventral in Centroceras, and dorsal in Aturia); larval development within an egg capsule, without planktonic larval stage. Remarks. - The nautiloid systematics is far from being satisfactory; it is precarious to distinguish taxa of higher than familial rank. For practical purposes, I assign the Early Paleozoic nautiloids to the suborder Centroceratina, the Late Paleozoic and Triassic ones to the suborder Tainoceratina, and the post-Triassic forms to the suborder Nautilina. These suborders cannot be unequivocally diagnosed because of frequent evolutionary convergence. Synonimy Zasięg czasowy
