Diagnoza Adult P1 elements in early populations are narrow, with a long smooth furrow separating the posterior row of denticles (there is rather a platform than icrion at this side of the element). In younger populations, the P1 elements are more robust at comparable stages and more triangular in appearance. Porównanie P1 elements are very variable but most of tchem closely resemble the Famennian Pseudopolygnathus ostrovkensis Dzik, 2006 that may be ancestral to this species. The P1 elements in populations of Pseudopolygnathus primus co-occurring sympatrically with Weyerognathus inaequalis show a low population variability, with their occlusal surface invariably developed as an icrion. By contrast, the population variability of P. primus preceding stratigraphically the first Weyerognathus is so wide that both the icrion and platform morphologies can be recognized among specimens of various ontogenetic age.
