The tubercles covering the anterior half of the platform in adult sp elements are arranged in a fingerprint pattern that merges with the denticles of the blade. There is generally quite a wide variation in the platform ornamentation.

The oldest occurrence of P₂ elements resembling those of Siphonodella corresponds to the transition from P. sulcatus to S. duplicata.
