Diagnoza Inner side of ambulacral plates with long, lingulate process. Porównanie The species differs from A. montanus from the Late Devonian of Fairholme Formation in Alberta in having longer inner processes, and narrower ambulacral plates. Interambulacral plate sculpture in A. montanus is more pronounced and there are more secondary tubercles (in A. devonicus the main tubercle is commonly surrounded by five secondary tubercles). The largest ambulacral plates (probably oral) of A. devonicus are very massive and the other ambulacrals are of similar shape to Archaeocidaris, but the latter lack processes. Among the lepidocentrid echinoids only the Late Carboniferous Pholidechinus brauni has a similar type of pyramid.
