Type species: Chonetes zeuschneri Sobolev, 1909; Mid Devonian, Givetian; Skały, Poland Shell small, rounded or weakly elongate in outline, usually strongly concavoconvex with surface costellate; no spines developed but canal apertures alternating on each side of umbo; hinge denticulate and cardinal process internally ventrally gibbous; short median septum supporting cardinal process; anderidia posteriorly fusing with septum, anteriorly divergent at 80°; one pair of long, narrow, bladelike accessory septa usually longitudinally curved medianly.
