Diagnoza Small storm petrel (length 15–20 cm; wingspan 34–42 cm and body mass 28–50 g); dark brown plumage with a wide white rump, evenly cut tail and characteristic yellow webs. Porównanie Most similar to the European storm petrel Hydrobates pelagicus, but larger, with wider wings, a more pronounced cover strip on top of the wings, and longer, protruding beyond the tail legs with characteristic yellow webs; the remaining European storms petrel have forked tails. Autekologia Pelagic; most abundant in cold waters over continental shelf or inshore, especially during breeding season; wanders over seas after breeding; especially abundant in plankton rich areas; breeds colonially in holes and crevices in cliffs, rocky slopes and screes on Antarctic and Subantarctic islands and probably in high mountains (Andes); diet consists mostly of planktonic crustaceans, fish, small squid, polychaetes, snails and carrion. Występowanie geograficzne Antarctica (sometimes far inland), southern Chile, Tierra del Fuego, Falklands, South Georgia, South Sandwich, South Orkney, South Shetlands, Bouvetøya, Crozet, Kerguelen, Heard, Macquarie, Balleny, Scott Island, Peter I Island (Onley and Scofield, 2007, Brooke 2004); most likely breeding in the central Andes (Barros, 2017); after breeding disperses widely in the North Atlantic (to 77 °N - Onley i Scofield, 2007), the Indian and the Pacific Oceans; in Poland only one record (5.10.1997) in Kąty Rybackie (Stawarczyk et al. 2017).
