Rodzaj Polonodus Dzik, 1976

Gatunek typowy
Ambalodus clivosus Viira, 1974.

Opis

The platform elements of Polonodus have a very deep basal cavity and bifurcating processes ornamented with transverse rows of tubercles of variable size. At early ontogenetic stages they are cruciform in occlusal view, later in its ontogeny quite complex shapes may develop. Other elements of the apparatus resemble those of Lenodus.
According to Zhang (1998) P2 elements of Polonodus are mirror-imaged unlike those of Dzikodus. Stouge & Bagnoli (1999) proposed that Dzikodus is a member of the Pygodus lineage, whereas Polonodus is related rather to Cahabagnathus.
