Diagnoza The shell with fine but distinctive spiral lirae, more distinct on juvenile whorls. Even on the largest specimens a small but deep umbilicus is present. The callus is expanded in the lower part of inner lip into a crescent-like lobe orientated slightly oblique to the shell Porównanie Differs from any other species of Ataphrus, apart from A. compactus (Gabb, 1869) from the Late Cretaceous of California (USA), in having spiral sculpture.
