Diagnoza

Variable, thickly pachyconic to globular conch; narrowumbilicus; ornamentation with serrated growth lines, which are biconvex and rursiradiate; lateral projections low, external sinus not very deep; spiral stripes are formed at the umbilicus; external lobe is as wide as the adventitious lobe; median saddle has 50% of the height of the pointed one ventrolateral saddles.

Porównanie

Differs from almost all other species of Goniatites by the quite wide umbilicus and the width of the external lobe is 100% of the adventitious lobe; Goniatites crenifalcatus has a very similar shell and a corresponding lobe line, but G. fimbriatus has a stronger ornamentation; from G. crenistria differs in a more prominent crenulation of growth lines that in the umbonal part of the conch transform into a longitudinal striation, in a wider umbilicus and weak ventrolateral lobes of the aperture at subadult stages; adults reached larger sizes than other species of the genus.
